After 8 years in the making (about 6.5 of which were mostly spent NOT making), I finally finished my book! I did quite a bit of prep work for this – including choosing reference photos and doing tons of research on self-publishing – back in 2017, but then the project sat dormant for a while.
You know what, though? That was a good thing. Over the next few years, the time I spent drawing was an important part of finding my style as a digital artist. I honed my skills and developed a more distinctive look for the pieces I was creating. Compare some of my newer work to where I started from, here, and you can see how I experimented with different techniques and software programs before I narrowed it down to mostly Procreate on my iPad with my Apple Pencil.
I had the book written back in 2017, and that was probably one of the only pieces that I didn’t take apart and redo completely. Only a few minor edits were needed in that area, which saved me a lot of time overall. I had to learn to use Adobe InDesign to set up my book file, plug in my text and artwork, and double-check that everything was formatted correctly to upload to Amazon!
The final product is one that I am SO proud of; it’s adorable, and I love looking at it. At 35 pages, it’s the perfect size for a bedtime story. If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you’ve been seeing exclusive updates and announcements while I’ve been working.

I’m excited to announce that “From Pasture to Piaffe” is now LIVE and available on Amazon! Conveniently, Crumble’s 17th birthday is March 22nd, so in honor of that, for the remainder of the month, if you purchase the book and send me a screenshot of your order confirmation, I’ll send you a PDF bundle of 8 coloring pages! Seven of these pages are line drawings directly from the book, and I’ve included one special bonus page for Crumble’s birthday. You’ll be able to download and print the PDF as many times as you want so you can share it with friends and family.
So, head on over to Amazon to purchase Crumble’s book and wish him a happy birthday, then send me your confirmation screenshot by midnight EST on March 31st, via egoddard.art@gmail.com and I’ll send you the link to download your coloring pages!
